(735be) Metal-Free Precision Bottlebrush Polymers with Ionic and Fluorinated Moieties for MRI Applications

Water-soluble fluorinated MRI contrast agents present safer alternatives to metal-based platforms for disease diagnosis. However, enhancing the fluorine signal compromises aqueous solubility. In this talk, we will discuss the design and synthesis of a new fluorine-rich water-soluble bottlebrush polymer featuring sequence-defined ionic side chains. The key to this synthetic approach is precise control over the side chains’ sequence, composition, and structural dispersity. Our design concept underlines the importance of precision synthesis for enhancing NMR signal-to-noise ratio, signal sharpness, and MR image contrast. Such precision synthetic materials offer a safe and promising solution for future disease diagnosis and therapy.
