Different technologies have been employed for removing hydrogen sulfide from natural gas, biogas, and other gases based on market requirements and environmental regulations. The biological desulfurization technologies represent a promising, ecological, and environmentally sustainable solution. Thiopaq is one of these technologies that has been studied and commercialized since the end of the past century as a sustainable and environmental technology in addition to offering a decarbonization opportunity. The current work maps different aspects of the technology based on its applications in various industries, the utilized sulfur-oxidizing bacteria, and the process description. In addition, it highlights on the side reactions, enzymes catalysis, and thiols. Moreover, the main operating parameters, biosulfur, technology economics, and technology advantages and disadvantages are thoroughly discussed. Finally, conclusions and recommendations for future work with are presented.
