(642a) Invited Talk: The Expanding World of Cell-Free Biotechnologies: From Targeted Therapeutics to Carbon-Negative Biochemicals

Author

Swartz, J. R. - Presenter, Stanford University
While in vivo biotechnologies continue to offer exciting opportunities, cell-free technologies offer new and unique capabilities. This will first be discussed in general terms followed by two examples: 1. A new highly engineered, highly versatile Virus-Like Particle (VLP)- based technology for targeted therapeutic delivery and for novel vaccines, and 2. A carbon-negative metabolic engineering technology that offers high conversion efficiencies and productivities. While the contrasting targets differ dramatically in product unit value and production scales, cell-free approaches provide differing, but game-changing opportunities for economically attractive commercial implementation for both.
