Karsten Keller - Presenter, DuPont Engineering Research and Technology
Solid-liquid separation is a critical process in various industries, including food, pharmaceuticals, and
chemicals. The particle size significantly influences the separation technique used. For larger particles,
methods like filtration, centrifugation, or gravity settling might be sufficient. However, when dealing
with nanosized particles, the separation becomes more challenging due to their particle / particle
interactions. Membranes are used frequently for very small particles.
In addition to the physical properties of the particles, other factors like the concentration of the particles
and the nature of the liquid medium also play a significant role in determining the most suitable solid-
liquid separation method. A comprehensive understanding of these factors is essential for optimizing
the separation process and ensuring efficient and cost-effective operations in the respective industries.
The presentation will provide an overview of solid-liquid separation in the industry and the challenges to
find cost effective solutions.
