Controlling the Oil and gas Upstream processes has been vital; however, control has been limited by the need for a direct correlation and the inability to use multiple parameters simultaneously. This paper shows how process engineer in an upstream process make use of the data from the controller's point of view and suggests utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) for more savings in the process. Limitations of current control systems were discussed, including producing condensate with a specific Rate of Vapor Pressure (RVP), data monitoring of valves, and maximizing the normal operating envelope of vessels without reaching the trigger limit. KPIs of plants, such as plant reliability, availability, and operation efficiency, were explained, and suggestions for utilizing AI were given. Finally, an AI solution named QUANTA was used to show how the controller limitations can be solved.
