(200a) New Frontiers for Chemical Engineers: Why Modular Systems Could be the Future

In this talk, I will discuss some future directions for chemical engineering and focus specifically on distributed versus centralized systems. I will probe the idea of modular chemical plants and how the Department of Energy and ARPA-E are working on new programs that would harness renewable energy sources like distributed wind and solar to power modular chemical plants.
