With the evolution of the processes, energy will always be a critical necessity for the system to function properly. There is no process that can sustain any cycle if the energy is not being used. With the depletion of the petroleum reserves and the increase in pollution, there has been a surge in the use of bio-diesel as a fuel resource for the production of such energy, which is a good thing. The development of biodiesel will result in a significant increase in waste generation.

Glycerol (glycerin), one of the principal byproducts created during the synthesis of biodiesel, and is one of the most challenging waste products to manage. It is not possible to simply dispose of this sort of waste component without first treating it. However, depending on the method and feedstocks utilized, it can generate a variety of waste products, including some wastewater, minerals, resins, particles strained from spent oil, and glycerin, amongst other substances. Large manufacturers frequently do not have a problem with trash because they can invest in the technology necessary to recycle and reuse some of their goods, but small producers frequently have a problem with garbage disposal because they lack the resources to do so.
