(29c) Keynote Speaker - Omid Veiseh, Assistant Professor of Bioengineering, Rice University

Dr. Omid Veiseh, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor and CPRIT Scholar in Cancer Research in the Department of Bioengineering at Rice University. He is a bioengineer and entrepreneur leading a cutting-edge research program aimed at developing and commercializing immunotherapy innovations towards improving human health. His discoveries have translated into therapeutic products that are in various stages of clinical testing for the treatment of blood disorders, metabolic disorders, Type-1 Diabetes, and Cancer.
Dr. Veiseh received a dual Ph.D. in Materials Science & Engineering and Nanotechnology from the University of Washington. He completed his postdoctoral research with Prof. Robert Langer and Prof. Daniel Anderson at MIT and Harvard Medical School. Over the course of his career he has authored, or co-authored more than 60 peer-reviewed publications including those in Nature, Nature Biotechnology, Nature Materials, Nature Medicine, Nature Biomedical Engineering and is an inventor on more than 30 pending or awarded patents. He has co-founded four biotechnology companies based on his research efforts to date, namely, Sigilon Therapeutics (Nasdaq : SGTX), Avenge Bio, Pana Bio, and Curada Bio.
