(353d) Process Integration of CO2 Capture for Smr(Steam-Methane Reforming)-Based Hydrogen Production

One of major routes to produce hydrogen is SMR-based process in which there are three different locations to be considered for the implementation of capture technologies. Such difference in CO2 concentration and flowrate of for these streams requires rigorous assessment of the impact related to CO2 capture on capture cost and hydrogen production. Furthermore, different technologies, for example, amine-based absorption and membrane technology, are possible for removing CO2.
This study aims to enhance our understanding on technical feasibility and economic implications related to the introduction of CO2 capture technologies to the SMR-based hydrogen plant. Economic impacts of different capture technologies to hydrogen production are investigated, subject to three different capture locations with consideration of different feed CO2 concentration and flowrates. Different levels of Co2 separation performance and energy consumption for capture technologies are also addressed to obtain guidance about how much economic benefits can be gained from technical advances for capture technologies.
