(306e) Circular tools, materials and business models for a circular economy

As we strive for a circular economy, companies are looking for ways to close the loop on their products. At Stora Enso Circular Solutions, we are developing tools and business models to utilize more recycled raw materials and ensure that our products are re-used and recycled as much as possible. For utilizing recycled raw materials, novel sourcing methods are needed. We are developing a digital platform concept together with partners that would enable better visibility and connectivity to those seeking to sell, buy or help upcycle recyclable raw materials. Of course, sourcing of recycled raw materials is not the end game, and we are also working on methods of using bio-based ingredients to upcycle and improve CO2 footprint of recycled plastics. Ultimately, we need to make money from these materials as well. But ensuring the maximum value of our materials means closing the loop and taking responsibility beyond the material production. We are developing new business models for owning and leasing products made from our biocomposite materials including a closed loop for 3D printed furniture. With these developments and more to come, we look forward to contributing perpetually towards a circular economy.
