(462d) Capstone Design Twitter Poster Session As a Way to Engage in Discussions and Feedback Online

As part of a senior Capstone Design 2 course, a poster presentation was previously done to allow teams to discuss and get feedback for their detailed process designs before their final designs are submitted. This poster session was designed for an online format using the social media platform, Twitter. The 23 design teams posted their posters using the hashtag #CHME4703Poster and had 24-hours to comment and discuss their project designs. The use of Twitter as a social media platform enabled engagement, discussions and feedback on their designs by the Chemical Engineering community from their peers, faculty, and alumni at our University as well as the larger scientific and engineering community, notably through AIChE and ASEE. The event was a success with over 275 tweets, 382 likes, and 81 retweets. Students commented that they liked the online Twitter format as a way to engage and get the feedback from the Chemical Engineering community similar to they would in a face-to-face poster session.
