Session: New Tools and Applications from Unconventional Synthetic Biology Organisms

Biological diversity reflects unique solutions adopted by organisms to harness energy, survive predation, and reproduce. Across the vast biological landscape, only a small fraction of organisms are well-characterized. Synthetic biology is expanding beyond canonical organisms to harness novel functions and regulatory programs from unconventional organisms. In this session, we will hear how new tools from unconventional organisms are driving innovations in metabolic engineering, plant biology, and biotechnology.
