Session: Modular Processes for Coal and/or Biomass Conversion

Modular coal conversion technologies offer distinct advantages in both the power generation and specialty fuels and chemical sectors. Given the evolving energy landscape in the US and other parts of the world, the benefits of a modular approach for coal conversion can offer a compelling case, including accelerated schedules for technology development, lower total investment and operating costs, improved availability enabled by process redundancy, and flexibility in meeting location-specific needs. The objective of this session is to explore active research and technology development that makes progress towards commercializing new modular energy conversion systems and increasing market possibilities for coal conversion to power and/or fuels and chemicals.
