(6en) Electrochemical Engineering for Energy, Environment and Separation Applications

Electrochemistry, which connects electricity with redox chemical reaction, provides novel and exciting opportunities for engineering solutions to some of the grand challenges faced by our human society. My research will primarily be focused on engineering electrochemical materials, devices and system for energy and separation applications, with an emphasis on the below technologies.
Energy:
- Li-ion battery
- Next generation batteries system (Li metal, solid state, multi-valent)
- Enhanced oil recovery
Separation:
- Shock electrodialysis for water desalination and treatment, nanoparticles, colloid separation etc.
- Faradic ion adsorption and separation
My method will primarily be experiment. For some projects, I will also leverage the large amount of experiment data and use data analytics to optimize and design electrochemical systems. Also, I collaborate closely with computational scientists and theorists for modeling at different length scales.
Teaching Interests:
I will develop a graduate course: Electrochemical Engineering for Energy, Environment and Separation based on my research experience.
I can teach the following undergraduate course based on my education and training.
Thermodynamics, kinetics, transport phenomena, fluid mechanics, system and control engineering.
