Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are emerging water contaminates. Activated carbon has been proven to be advantageous as a suitable absorbent for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) removal from surface water. However, published PAHs-AC adsorption isotherm data are spare and not included all 7 priority PAHs in EPA standard. In this research, adsorption isotherm (24 hours) for 16 priority PAHs, including all 7 priority EPA PAHs, from 2 mg dissolved organic carbon (DOC)/L solution onto granular activated carbon (GAC) at 25°C were performed by batch shake experiments. Adsorption isotherm at 24 hours data were fitted with BrunauerâEmmettâTeller (BET) isothermal models in the range of PAHs concentrations studied (0.1-0.8 ppb). In addition, the oxidation effects of different doses of potassium permanganate (PM)/ sodium bisulfite (BS) on PAHs removal were investigated. The research results provide valuable guidance for the removal of PAHs from water.
