Tetrapropylammonium Bromide(TPABr) is a hygroscopic white-coloured salt used as a template for reaction. The catalyst like ZSM-5 and zeolite TS-1 can be prepared using the proposed product. As per the conventional techniques, it is extremely difficult to obtain with a higher yield. In the present work, a method for producing TPABr by reacting tripropylamine with Propyl bromide in a polar solvent at a temperature between 60°C and 160°C is carried out.

TPABr is prepared by mixing propyl bromide with tripropylamine in a polar solvent, in an inert atmosphere, under reflux conditions for a sufficient period of time to form a solution containing TPABr. After cooling the resulting solution, the solution was mixed with water, thus forming a mixture and recovering TPABr in high yield from the mixture. The reaction can be carried out at different time intervals and in presence of different polar solvents. The reaction can be optimized depending on the solvent used. Usually more the solvent taken leads to increase in the yield but recovery of solvent should be economical. Usually 20% to 5 time of reaction mixture is suggested as solvent quantity to be taken.

In the present work, the TPABr is synthesized at various conditions and evaluated with the successfulness through NMR. The developed and required TPABr is further characterized by NMR, FTIR, FE-SEM, TEM, XRD and Surface area.
