A photo catalytic reactor operates on catalyst suspended in the solution or immobilized on various supports. Photo catalytic reactor with suspended catalyst gives greater contact between the catalyst and dissolved impurities compared to reactors with immobilized catalyst. The aim of the present study is to design an annular UV photo reactor and analyze its performance for the degradation of malathion from water with Titanium dioxide as catalyst and ZnO doped carbon as an alternative catalyst and compare their performance. Various parameters were studied to observe the action of designed reactor like variation in the initial feed concentration of malathion by keeping the mass of catalyst steady and aeration of the system. The reactor performance was assessed by varying the concentration with time. The performance of reactor was studied in fluidized state for a known feed concentration of malathion. The designed reactor has given a degradation of 97.54% within three hours of time which is greater than reactors so far developed.
