Machine learning has rapidly gained in popularity, spurred by well-publicized advances like deep learning and widespread commercial interest in big data analytics. Despite the enthusiasm, companies and researchers are struggling to deploy machine learning models in chemical plants so as to reconcile the hype with actual application and success.

In this presentation, MathWorks will showcase the successes of machine learning and deep learning in industrial settings with 6 user stories/case studies - all drawn from the process industries. With these examples drawn from customers' usage of MATLAB, MathWorks seeks to dispel the notion that machine learning is solely the subject of academic study but can indeed be applied to process plants with measurable business benefits.

In addition, machine learning workflow elements will be discussed in this talk including pre-processing, model building using apps and deployment to industrial systems using MATLAB.
