The simulation of mixing in the transition region has both
industrial importance and intellectual challenges. Many processes that are
operated in the transition region are by default simulated in the laminar or
turbulent regions. This paper will overview our work using Computational Fluid
Dynamics (CFD) to understand the importance of mixing in the transition region
in with regard to several geometries and configurations with fluids of
industrial importance. This work will summarize our research to understand CFD
simulations in the transition region including the effect of impeller geometry,
baffle placement, fluid properties and velocities.
