(263h) Introducing Chemical Engineers to Coding, Data and Visualization through Matlab

This talk will describe our use of Matlab in teaching chemical engineering undergraduates the principles of coding in an elective course as well as in independent research projects. Our approach focuses on the use of Matlab to solve traditional chemical engineering problems as well as its use to general interest science, technology and economic topics with an emphasis on simulations, data analysis and visualization. A number of student projects will be highlighted showing the creative ways in which students have applied the coding skills they have learned in as little as one semester, several of which have contributed to peer-reviewed journal publications.
