(235d) 2019 William W. Grimes Award: Dr. Christine Grant, NCSU- "Mentors, Mentors Everywhere: Weaving Informal and Formal Mentoring into a Robust Chemical Sciences Mentoring Quilt"

Author

Grant, C. - Presenter, North Carolina State University
In an era of convergence, a clear understanding of the discipline-specific cultures is at the root of interdisciplinary mentoring. Informal and formal mentoring manifests differently for women and underrepresented minorities in the chemical sciences where more work is required to achieve parity, equity, and inclusion for diverse groups. This is particularly true for Women of Color (WOC) who occupy a unique place at the intersection of race and gender in STEM fields. Intentional, informed, mentoring includes informal interactions at formal conference events, where cross-cultural mentoring can result in robust, long-lasting mentoring teams.
