Session: Real-Time Optimization of Operations

Advances in Process Systems Engineering tools and methodologies, combined with advances in computer hardware and the ever-growing digital infrastructure installed on today's physical assets, have opened up many opportunities for the optimization of system operations in real, or near real, time. This session invites papers contemplating effective frameworks to achieve such levels of automation in the decision-making associated with operating physical systems that lie within the whole spectrum of operations of the process industries. Topics of interest include but are not limited to new algorithms for real-time optimization, the development of dynamic models and simulation tools to support the implementation of the latter, the incorporation of schemes to insure against system uncertainty, as well as applications demonstrating the effectiveness of the above in existing real-life contexts.
