2018 AIChE Annual Meeting
Session: Electroactive Biomaterials to Sense and Control Microbial Infections
Many interfaces are used to deliver electrochemical current while providing care. Electrocautery and brain or cardiac stimulations are few examples. In the case of metal-based implants, residual charges or potential on the devices are known to affect cells. What does it take to a microbe to colonize a charged interface? The delivery of low-level electrochemical current was long seen as an alternative to control and detect microorganisms. This session will highlight some of the achievements in microbial control with electroactive materials for cell detection or sterilization. Supported by the AIChE Foundation
