2018 AIChE Annual Meeting

Session: Community-Based Water Treatment Innovations

This session will highlight innovations in community-based projects for water treatment and sanitation. Of particular interest are strategies to provide quality water for personal consumption and small-scale irrigation by local communities in developing countries. Approaches should emphasize de-centralized design, low cost, low power, and low labor requirements. Performance metrics may include cost per liter, reduced incidence of illness or disease, or labor savings. Submissions are welcomed for technology at all stages of development, from the idea stage through lessons learned from fully implemented projects. Submissions from student groups including Capstone Design and Engineers without Borders (EWB) projects are also welcomed.
