(690a) Electricity Performance of Microbial Fuel Cell with Mixed Inoculation of Yeast and E.coli
Yeast and E.coli could be ideal MFC bio-catalyst since they are robust, safe, easily handled. What more they can metabolize a wide range of substrates with high catalytic rate. In this study, a typical two-chamber MFC with the only substrate of glucose was constructed by inoculation with yeast and E.coli. The results show that : The electric power of the mixed inoculated MFC (351.45mW/ m2) is obviously better than that of the single inoculated MFC. This Highest electric power is 47% higher than E.coli based MFC (185.71 mW/m2) and 39% higher than that of yeast based MFC (215.22mW/m2). The internal resistance of MFC is smaller when it inoculated with both yeast and E.coli rather than a single organism, which means these two organisms play a mutually reinforcing role in the process of electron transfer. Therefore, mixed inoculation of yeast and E.coli in MFC reduce resistance of electron transfer as well as whole resistance of MFC.
