Over the past four decades, industrial biotechnology has grown to become a $368B component of the U.S. economy with ever growing opportunities. The largest growth segment within the industry over the past decade has been in industrial applications such as biochemicals, biofuels, pharma ingredients, and food and feed applications. With these production processes being widely accepted and their products being commoditized, there is enormous interest in production of higher value chemicals from sustainable sources. Through Arzeda’s unique ability to design biology (through designer enzymes and metabolic pathways), Arzeda is able to bio-produce new chemicals (1) with enhanced performance, (2) sustainably, and (3) at a cost matching or below the current molecule on the market.

Since 2008 Arzeda has been harnessing the power of computational and synthetic biology to create new enzymes and chemical products that can compete on cost, performance and sustainability. In partnership with Fortune 500 companies and industrial leaders, the company has developed a portfolio of enzymes and specialty chemicals for polymers, advanced materials and health and nutrition products. Arzeda’s proprietary platform and validation process rapidly creates “cell factories” that can be used at industrial scales to solve problems and create opportunities that otherwise would be impossible.

Several case studies of Arzeda’s technology and partnerships will be presented to demonstrate how Arzeda’s industrial strength computational enzyme design technology has been able to leapfrog previous enzyme engineering technologies in order to create the bio-materials of the future.
