(49b) Theoretical and Experimental Characterizations of a Rechargeable Hybrid Cathode for Lithium-Based Batteries

Theoretical and experimental investigations on a hybrid cathode for use in rechargeable lithium-based cell have been performed. The hybrid cathode active material consists of a mixture of carbon monofluoride (CFx) and copper phthalocyanine (CuPc). The CFx is used on the first cycle to form a highly conducting graphene-like structure to enhance the cathode electronic conductivity. We will present experimental cell cycle data using this new and innovative hybrid concept, model formulation for the charge transfer electro-kinetics for the cathode electrolyte/ active material, and computational modeling results on the predicted structure/composition of the CuPc active material at different states of charge.
