(459b) Materials and System Challenges in Flow Batteries for Large-Scale Energy Storage
Author
Trung Van Nguyen - Presenter, University of Kansas
Electrochemical conversion and storage systems such as stationary batteries, flow batteries, and reversible fuel cells are expected to play a crucial role in large scale deployment of intermittent renewable energy sources like wind and solar. Major challenges remain in all of these systems and no single high-performance and cost-effective system is currently available. This presentation discusses the materials and system challenges in electrical energy storage systems such as stationary and flow batteries and hybrids of these. Also presented will be the studies of gas-liquid hybrid systems such as the reversible hydrogen-bromine and hydrogen-vanadium fuel cells conducted at the University of Kansas.
