The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) officially known as âTransforming our world: the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Developmentâ is a set of 17 âGlobal Goalsâ defined by the United Nations. Biotechnology is uniquely poised to help address many of the challenges associated with achieving the SDGs. In this lecture, I will describe how biotechnology can help achieve these goals, in particular those related to âclimate changeâ, âsustainable productionâ, and âimproved health and wellbeingâ. The strategies of systems metabolic engineering for the bio-based production of chemicals and materials will be presented with recent example products. Also, systems biological and machine learning approaches taken to solve some problems associated with the current drugs will also be presented.
