(781a) Key Note Presentation Overviewing the Clean Energy Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute

CESMII, the Clean-Energy Smart Manufacturing Institute, was created to advance the tools and practice of Smart Manufacturing (SM). While all manufacturers want to be smart, SM has a particular definition: The business, technology, infrastructure, and workforce practice of optimizing manufacturing through the use of engineered systems that integrate operational technologies and information technologies (OT/IT). Its goals are the right information and right technology at the right time and in the right form to the right people, powering smart decision-making in factories and across entire value chains. The US Department of Energy is investing $70 million over five years to this purpose, and CESMII's industrial, academic, and other members are investing at least that much to create new SM technology, manufacturing analytics, testbeds, and workforce development.
