Developing new processes that can employ renewable electricity to produce fuels and chemicals using water and CO2 as inputs could play an important role in a sustainable future. New catalysts are needed for these processes, particularly those that are selective to desired products, one of the principal challenges in the field. In this talk, we will discuss some of our latest efforts to understand catalyst selectivity for CO2 electro-reduction, including in-depth studies of catalyst surface structure. We then leverage that knowledge to develop catalyst materials and interfaces with improved performance.
