In order to choose a proper reactor type for large scale pyridine synthesis, turbulent fluidized bed, fast fluidized bed and transport fluidized bed reactor are used. Based on experiment result, a model combines flow hydrodynamics and reaction kinetics is proposed to investigate the average catalysts activity by using different reactor types. The results show that the average catalysts activity is determined by catalysts circulation rates and catalysts residence time. The average catalysts activity within experiment operating conditions are 1, 0.71 and 0.36 for transport fluidized bed reactor, fast fluidized bed reactor and turbulent fluidized bed reactor respectively. Empirical correlations for catalysts average activity prediction are obtained.
