The Valspar Corporation manufactures polymeric resins for use in the paints and coatings industry. Evaluating the mixing and heat transfer requirements is important to de-risk the scale-up of new resin synthesis processes or transferring synthesis processes between existing manufacturing assets. Several computational fluid dynamic (CFD) tools have been applied to evaluate critical steps associated with mixing and heat transfer. In this talk, we will discuss the application of CFD tools to evaluate the risk of scaling up a new resin synthesis process and to transfer an existing synthesis process between two assets.
