Chemical looping combustion (CLC) and chemical looping with oxygen uncoupling (CLOU) are promising carbon capture technologies. Little experimental or simulated work has been copleted on systems larger than 1 MW. A complete understanding of the hydrodynamics will result in a quicker scaling to larger systems. To understand the hydrodynamics a scaled cold-flow unit was evaluated through visualization, pressure measurements, circulation rate, and bed mass changes. To further explore the hydrodynamics of CLC and CLOU a 10 kW system was run hot and cold was evaluated through pressure measurements, circulation rate, and bed mass changes. These evaluations and experiments were compared to simulations of Barracuda-VR®. The results shows that Barracuda-VR® accuratly represents the experiments.
