(467f) Evaluation of Electric Vehicle Energy Consumption for Traveling and Air-Conditioning

“Smart Photovoltaic power generation (hereinafter referred to as PV) and Electric Vehicle (hereinafter referred to as EV) combined system" has been proposed and the effect has been clarified. In order to promote “SMART PV and EV combined system”, it’s necessary to spread the EV. In order to spread the EV, it’s necessary to solve some problems which are high energy consumption of car air-conditioner, high cost of storage battery and risk aversion of a dead battery.

In order to use effectively utilize an EV battery, it is necessary to evaluate the remaining battery capacity and predicting the power consumption. Evaluation method of the remaining battery capacity with high accuracy has been proposed. Moreover, the prediction method of the power consumption for traveling has been proposed. However, the power consumption for a vehicle-mounted air-conditioner ocuupy 30% of all energy consumption of a vehicle. Therefore, it is crucial to evaluate the power consumption for both traveling and air-conditioning, in order to acculately predict the really usable power that is left in the battery.

In this report, the authors have constructed a theoretical model which calculates the EV power consumption for both traveling and air-conditioning. The calculated results of this model have been compared to the actual traveling datas that are obtained by the experiment of a converted type EV and i-MiEV which is made by Mitsubishi Motors Corporation. In addition, the factors which have a impact on the EV power consumption have been studied.

As a result, the EV power consumption is greately varied by acceleration resistance, slope resistance, and the required air-conditioning load. Moreover, it's clarified that the air-conditioner consumes about 25 to 50 % of the total power consumption in a hot summer day. Additionally, the acceleration and the air-conditioning load differ depending on each vehicle driver. Therefore, in order to acculately predict the EV power consumption practically, it's necessary to reflect the characteristics of each vehicle driver based on the theoretical model.
