(40m) Effect of Activation Condition for Production of Activated Carbon from Fly Ash
Authors
Activated carbon (AC) was produced from Waste oil fly ash (OFA) by physico-chemical treatment method. The OFA was first treated with different types of oxidizing agent followed by steam gasification at different activation temperature. The produced AC was functionalized with hydroxyl and amine functional groups for removal of acidic gases from downstream. Several techniques such as FTIR, SEM and BET were used to characterize the amine functionalized OFA. Kinetic parameters for adsorption of H2S were studied to obtain the rate of adsorption. The results revealed that the surface morphology was quite different as a result of the treatment of OFA. The BET surface area increased from 59 m2/g for untreated ash to 318 m2/g after chemical activation. The maximum adsorption capacity of the treated ash was found to be 240 mg/g. The adsorption rate increased with the increase in flow rate and concentration. The results indicated the potential of using waste OFA in H2S removal.
