A series of scalable, simple, and low cost elastomer based bilayer systems with a rigid surface layer of polymer nanocomposite were designed and prepared. The transition between transparent and opaque state can be facilely achieved by uniaxially stretching and releasing the film. The bilayer system shows different surface morphologies and strain-responsive optical properties by changing the composition of the nanocomposite layer. Such bilayer systems with tunable surface hydrophobicity, coefficient of friction, and conductivity are promising for widespread application.
