Hydroclurocarbon (HFC) products are widely utilized in many applications, including refrigeration, foam expansion, and as propellants for aerosol products. HFC is being phased out with Hydrofluoroolefins (HFO) such as 1,3,3,3-tetrafluororopene (HFO-1234ze) to meet the expected higher standard environmental impact. This HFO has properties that meet European requirements of low global warming potential and no impact on the ozone layer. HFO-1234ze can be produced from 1,1,3,3-tetrachloropropane (TCPe). In this work, a one-step process is proposed to produce TCPe from readily available trichloroethylene and methylene chloride.
