Organometal halide perovskite solar cells offer a unique opportunity to harness solar energy efficiently using inexpensive, easily manufacturable devices. The efficiency of these devices has rapidly surpassed all other 3rd generation photovoltaics and is already approaching that of many mature commercial technologies. Inorganic hole conducting materials offer the potential to further improve perovskite solar cells by reducing the cost and improving stability. Using copper iodide as a hole conductor we have demonstrated the promise of this approach, fabricating devices with both increased stability and conductivity compared to spiro-OMeTAD solar cells. Recent advances in the fabrication and optimization of inorganic hole conductor-based perovskite solar cells will also be discussed.
