Distillation columns are dangerous places.  It is dangerous to be near them, on them and in them.  Production engineers are very aware of the dangers and safeguards.  Desk engineers, who only visit production sites occasionally, are less aware.

Whether near, on or in a distillation column, workers should “expect the unexpected” and “unexpect the expected.”
