(290g) Synthesis of Holey Graphene Via Gold Nanoparticle-Catalyzed Hydroxyl Radical Attack
Reduced graphene oxide (RGO) is commonly employed as a conductive carbon support for active nanostructured materials in applications ranging from storage batteries, photovoltaics, and photocatalysis. The conjugated carbon network inherent to graphene derivatives offers excellent conductivity while the 2- D structure supports high surface area upon which active materials employed in these applications can
be anchored. In recent work, we have demonstrated a new solution-based process to synthesize a
porous RGO morphology via hydroxyl radical attack. In this talk, I will outline the motivation and approach in the development of the "holey graphene" material while also exploring potential applications.
