2013 AIChE Annual Meeting
Session: Special Session: to Celebrate Prof. Derek Geldart's Career Long Accomplishments (Invited Talks)
Prof. Derek Geldart's name is synonymous with powder classification. His research provided us with a convenient guideline for particle classification. It is a classification we see in the first few paragraphs of nearly every article on fluidization if not in the title itself. His research also gave us tools for understanding bubble hydrodynamics in fluidized beds including determining the minimum bubble velocity, maximum bubble size, and the onset of slugging behavior. He also studied how bubble hydrodynamics effect the bed density, mass transfer and heat transfer. In memory of his many accomplishments, this session will provide papers that demonstrates Derek’s legacy in fluidization.
