2013 AIChE Annual Meeting

Session: Metabolic Engineering and Bioinformatics I: Computationally Driven Approaches

Metabolic engineering is the targeted improvement of the cellular metabolic phenotype using recombinant DNA technology. This session emphasizes genome-scale metabolic engineering; approaches that typically integrate computational methods with experimental work, and look to engineer the host on a metabolism-wide scale rather than focusing only on the specific enzymes and metabolites in a targeted pathway. Example areas include quantification of metabolic fluxes, construction of metabolic models from genomic data, and incorporation of microarray and proteomic data and mathematical modeling of metabolism. Abstracts describing new developments in these topics are sought, and the session is open to papers focused on any type of organism.
