Session: Case Studies in Process Intensification and Microprocess Engineering

Manufacturers lean heavily on process intensification (PI) and microprocess engineering to lower capital and operating costs, improve energy efficiency, and enhance safety. Various PI opportunities are available to manufacturers including multiple processes integration, alternative reactor design, and evolution from batch to continuous processing. The PI option selected by a particular operation is dependent on the inherent process characteristics and scale of the plant. For instance, one operation may benefit from new reaction routes, whereas another might use novel reactors. Papers involving cases studies discussing practical implementations as well as innovations that have led to PI opportunities are welcomed.
