In the last two decades, there has been tremendous interest in energy storage and use of nanoscale materials for energy storage due to their high surface area, strain relaxation and shorter diffusion lengths inside the material. A major challenge is to understand the fundamental properties of these materials in energy storage applications. Nanoscale material surfaces play an important role both in electronic properties and as interfaces with other materials / electrolytes. As an example, the interaction of solid surfaces with organic electrolytes can lead to the formation of solid-electrolyte interphase layer (SEI) with thickness of few ten nanometers. For energy storage, an in-depth understanding of the SEI is necessary to better design materials.

Materials design and application for energy storage will be presented in this poster.
