(294c) New Molecular Probes for mRNA Detection
Numerous viral infections and life threatening diseases are characterized by a specific mRNA expression pattern, making it a reliable target for diagnostics and drug therapies. While focusing on the fast acting and highly specific characteristics necessary when creating worthwhile diagnostics, we have created a new generation of molecular beacons suitable for detecting specific mRNA molecules. The design tools include molecular beacon-type oligonucleotides in combination with zinc finger-fluorescent protein fusions for fluorescence signaling upon target binding. Ultimately the design allows for simple construction, easy operation, and modular mRNA targeting capabilities.
