The field of ionic liquids is rapidly expanding with application being sought in an almost unlimited scope. Nevertheless, for many, even popular ionic liquids there is still a great lack of data on their physical properties and thermodynamic behavior. Such data is needed in order to verify the many models that are being developed to predict this behavior, models which are essential in an area with so many varieties and possibilities.

In our group, we have started a research program on a selected group of ionic liquids for which much basic data is unavailable in order to investigate the thermodynamic (VLE, LLE, ....) and thermophysical properties.

The present paper reports the vapor pressures of 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium thiocyanate + water, + ethanol, + 1-propanol, or + acetonitrile binary mixtures measured using a static device at temperatures between 273 and 363 K.

The data were correlated with the Antoine equation. From these data excess Gibbs functions (GE) were calculated for several constant temperatures and fitted to a fourth-order Redlich-Kister equation using the Barker’s method.
