2010 Annual Meeting
Session: Integrating New Safety Requirements Into the Chemical Engineering Curriculum
In November 2009 the AIChE Education and Accreditation Committee proposed new instructional requirements for process safety in the undergraduate chemical engineering curriculum. Not only must chemical engineering graduates be able to design, analyze, and control processes, but they must also be able to address the hazards associated with these processes. This session will focus on assisting chemical engineering departments in meeting these new requirements. Abstracts are requested in topic areas such as: industrial and regulatory needs in process safety, integration of process safety into core courses, the development of a dedicated course in process safety and hazard recognition, inclusion of the Safety and Chemical Engineering Education (SAChE) safety certificate program, and use of SAChE products and other resources in process safety instruction. Contributions are accepted from U.S and non-U.S. sources, and academic, industrial and government communities.
