This presentation will deal with evaluation of heterotrophic growth of oleaginous algae on carbohydrates available from different sources and compare its economics of lipid production from this route with that from autotrophically growing algae. Energy efficiency during the different processes, light delivery issues, cell harvesting and recovery of lipids from the cells will be considered in identifying the effect of different processing steps on the unit cost of production of lipids.
