(68a) Chemical Product Design Course at Carnegie Mellon University
Authors
Nick Sahinidis - Presenter, Carnegie Mellon University
Apurva Samudra - Presenter, Carnegie Mellon University
This presentation describes the chemical product design course at Carnegie Mellon University. The course introduces undergraduate students to the design of a chemical product. The lectures address aspects of the design of molecular structure, microstructure, and devices/processes that effect chemical change. Topics include market pull and technology push case studies; the design of refrigerants, polymers, and mixtures; techniques in the design of experiments, molecular property prediction, database searches; and intellectual property rights. This is a project-based course, for which an extensive report must be submitted. Recent course contents and projects worked on by students will be detailed in the presentation.
